Listen closely friends, the tale you are about to experience is one of much excitement and perseverance like nothing you have ever heard before.
It all started on a cool mid summers day, 11am to be more precise. Ravenous had just recently spoke with Elijah of Fer in regards to an outstanding bounty on the Iron Brotherhood Fortress Captain. The terms were simple, bring me the captains head as proof and you will be rewarded handsomely in gold pieces.
Ravenous informed Meriapi Darksoul, his close friend and party companion that he would be venturing to the Fort of the Iron Brotherhood to assassinate the captain. "should you wish to join me when time permits I shall commence the assault at approximately twelve noon." he said.
Meri nodded and disappeared into the shadows.
Ravenous accepted the contract. There was nothing more satisfying then engaging his enemies head on in close combat, and he was going to get paid for it to boot! He made preparations for his assault on the Fort packing the usual things. A kit to bandage up any wounds and his robes he received from the order of monks.
Noon was upon him, the grass outside the Fort glisened red in the afternoon sun, the bodies of three guards lay motionless at the threshold of the gates. His heart was racing, this was it! He pushed through the gates and encountered resistance immediately. The battle had begun.
Ravenous engaged the three guards just inside the door dispatching them with relative ease. He moved deeper into the Fort quickly dispatching the guards as they raced toward him.
One of the guards had nicked him with a halberd so he knelt down and dug in his pack to grab the necessary items to patch himself up.
Feeling confident he approached the inner gates, eager to locate the captain and return for his reward.
Upon turning the corner he realized he was in for more then he bargained for. The guards had alerted the Fort and there was an ambush waiting for him! Clerics, court Wizards, knights in heavy armour and even some orcish and bleeding eye mercenaries all stood on guard ready to strike at a moments notice.
Ravenous attempted to create a minor disturbance to lure a small group out but to no avail. The Cleric had spotted him and within seconds the mob was closing in on him. Backing away quickly he dodged arrows and took swipes at his enemies when he could trying to thin the herd while keeping his distance so as not to get cornered.
The tide was turning quickly, one of the lieutenants had managed to land a solid blow to his left arm and the bleeding eye mercenary was closing in fast. This battle could not be won alone, and he was very much alone right now...
Or so he thought. From the shadows emerged a halfling wielding a black short bow. Meri!
Meri took aim and delivered a fierce shot to the head of the bleeding eye mercenary dropping him in his tracks.
"good to see you" ravenous said smiling. The two halflings waged an all out war with the walls of the Fort, Ravenous keeping them focused on him and Meri picking them off from the flanks. The battle raged on through the night and into the early hours of the morning, the Iron Brotherhood forces seemed infinite, for every guard they fell two more would storm out of the doors at them.
The duo were quickly running out of room to operate and needed an exit fast. They could see the door from where they stood but there was a flood of opposition between them and it, reaching it would be a challenge all on its own.
As they began the push to escape the Fortress the battle took a turn for the worse. The captain and his elite guard had joined the fray!
In seconds the captain was upon them.
He brought his sword down hard catching Ravenous in the forearm leaving a large gash that was bleeding profusely. He swung again but Ravenous managed to avoid the blow. This battle was no longer a winning option. He yelled across to Meri, we need to get out of here!
At that very moment the captain turned his attention to Meri. The lunged and caught Meri across the midsection. This was bad news.
Both wounded and overwhelmed
They bolted for the door bouncing off of anything in there way and emerging on the other side. They made there
Way back to Fer to get some rest and reflect. Something went seriously wrong in that Fort today and they needed to know what it was.
To be continued...
